This Week Lance explains what he carries in his Cooking Module. These items don’t get used all that often so remember plan according to the needs of your team, policy of your organization, and specifics of the mission. The great part of modules is that you can leave this out of our bag if you’re doing a hasty search that will not require you to be gone very long, or too far away from command.

Below are links to some of the products we like to use in our Cooking module.

Outdoor Products Ultimate Dry Sack

Two person Survival Tent

Cooking pot/cup

Starbucks instant coffee:

Spork

Folding drinking cup

Coghlan stove

Coghlan fuel tablets

This week Joe talks about the knives he finds most useful on SAR missions.

Here are links to Joe's choices for knives to carry on SAR Missions:

Gerber Gator Machete Junior

Leatherman Skeletool

Leatherman Micra

The clothes we wear on a search and rescue mission can make a huge difference on the way we perform. Our clothing and comfort must not be a distraction when we are out on the trail looking for someone. Joe and Lance talk about the evolution of gear they wear from hats to shoes and everything in between in the video published this week. . Here are links to some of the gear we wear on searches: We highly recommend you go to a store where you can try out various shoes before purchasing one. Just for reference here is a link to the shoes Joe wears:

Danner Vital 8": boots

Merino wool base layer mens long johns

CQR Pants

LA Police Gear Tactical Cargo Pants

Dri-Equip Shirt

Canvas web belt

You need to build your first aid kit to match your own skills and training. On our SAR team we always deploy in groups of two or more searchers so we plan our first aid kits with the group think in mind. In this weeks video Lance talks about his first aid kit.

Below are links to some of the products we like to use in our First Aid modules.

Outdoor Products Ultimate Dry Sack

Elastic Bandage Wrap

SAM Rolled Splint

Hot Hands Hand Warmers

Modular Backpack Ep. 13

In this weeks video Lance explains what a modular packing system is and the benefits for packing your SAR gear this way. Each person will have to determine what gear they carry according to the stipulations of their organization and the needs of their area. While packing always be reminded that SAR is a team effort, so you don't have to pack too heavy with extras. We have to remember this is not bushcraft survival, or through backpacking. Below are links to some of the products we like to use in our Modular System overview. Amazon links to some of the products we use:

Outdoor Products Ultimate Dry Sack 3-Pack

REXBETI Folding Saw
